‘The action of throwing someone out of a window’ Oxford Dictionary – I do learn the strangest (and most brilliant) nuggets of information whilst working as a map illustrator. This illustration is a small segment of a map I drew for Ernest Journal and Budweiser (Budvar).
Defenestration was first coined in 1618 when Christian reformists threw two Catholic regents and their secretary from a high up window in Prague’s New Town Hall. Impressively all three survived the 70ft-fall – this was ascribed by the Catholics as divine intervention.
